Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle massage technique that can help to reduce swelling, improve circulation, and boost the immune system.

What does it involve....?

The Treatment begins by stimulating the main Lymph nodes using a gentle pumping action. The open ended, tube like, Lymph capillaries are found just under the surface of the skin and because the lymphatic system doesn't have a pump the gentle stretching action of this massage is enough to encourage the fluid to drain.

Depending on your symptoms other techniques can be added to ensure the best outcome.

After treatment, you may feel relaxed and refreshed. It is important to drink plenty of fluids to help flush out toxins. You may also want to avoid strenuous activity for a few hours after your massage.

Who it helps....

Post Operative

Lymphatic massage can aid in the healing process of your scars by reducing swelling and helping prevent excess scar tissue from developing during your recovery. Swelling after any type of surgery is normal and a necessary part of the healing process.

This massage helps remove the harmful fluid and toxins that can negatively impact your body's healing response.

Fibromyalgia

MLD can help with fibromyalgia by reducing inflammation and promoting tissue healing.

It can also help with other chronic conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, sinusitis, chronic fatigue, asthma, and acne.

Lipoedema

This treatment has a very important role in the management of Lipoedema. However it should be noted that lymphatic drainage massage does not remove fat buildup from tissues, rather it simply manipulates the underlying tissues to help the buildup of lymph flow, which can significantly reduce pain, pressure and the swelling.

Stress

MLD can help reduce stress by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system and increasing the release of endorphins.

Fluid Retention

This is a beneficial technique that can address water retention, cellulite, swelling, and IBS symptoms.

By stimulating the lymphatic system, MLD promotes fluid balance, reduces cellulite, relieves swelling, and eases digestive discomfort.

Long Covid

The use of MLD on long COVID-related breathlessness and fatigue has had positive outcomes. This treatment aids in flushing toxins out of the body, improving circulation and boosting the bodies immune system.
